Welcome to Celia de Aza who is a visiting researcher with the group as part of the H2020 Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) programme. Celia will spend six weeks in Dublin working with
the NCRA group before returning to University of Valladolid in Spain.
NCRA Group hosts CSMC2018
Dr. Róisín Loughran from the NCRA Group organised and hosted the third conference on Computer Simulation of Musical Creativity (CSMC2018) at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School on 20-22 August 2018. Speakers included Tim Blackwell (UCL) and Sarah Angliss (sarahangliss.com). A concert was organised as part of the conference that reflected key themes. Stefan Forstenlecher presents a paper at GECCO 2018
Stefan Forstenlechner presented his paper Towards Effective Semantic Operators for Program Synthesis in Genetic Programming at GECCO 2018 which took place this year in Kyoto, Japan 15-19 July. 
Four NCRA researchers present at WCCI 2018 in Rio de Janeiro
The NCRA Group were very well represented at WCCI 2018. David Lynch presented his paper Managing Quality of Service through Intelligent Scheduling in Heterogeneous Wireless Communications Networks, Takfarinas saber presented A Hybrid Algorithm for Multi-objective Test Case Selection, Stefan Forstenlechner presented Towards Understanding and Refining the General Program Synthesis Benchmark Suite with Genetic Programming and Nam Le presented The Baldwin Effect reconsidered through the Prism of Social Learning. The conference took place 8-13 July 2018 in Brazil.
Farewell to Dr Brendan Cody-Kenny

Two best paper nominations for NCRA Researchers
Congratulations to Takfarinas Saber and Nam Le who were nominated for best paper awards during 2018. Takfarinas was nominated for his paper Multi-Level Grammar Genetic Programming for Scheduling in Heterogeneous Networks EvoStar 2018 in Parma, Italy. Nam Le was nominated for his paper The Baldwin effect reconsidered through the prism of social learning at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Nam Le offered place at the Santa Fe Institute Summer School
Nam Le was offered a place and attended the Santa Fe Institute (SFI) Complex Systems Summer School in June 2018. The SFI in New Mexico, is a prestigious research and education centre exploring the frontiers of complex systems science. Here researchers endeavor to understand and unify the underlying, shared patterns in complex physical, biological, social, cultural, technological, and even possible astrobiological worlds.
NCRA represented at Evostar 2018
Takfarinas Saber presented his paper Multi-Level Grammar Genetic Programming for Scheduling in Heterogeneous Networks, which was nominated for a best paper award. Brendan Cody-Kenny presented his paper Investigating the Evolvability of Web Page Load Time which was a joint paper with Fidelity Investments Ireland. Evostar 2018 took place in Parma, Italy 4-6 April 2018.
Roisin Loughran presents at the AISB Convention 2018
The Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and Simulation of Behaviour (AISB) is the largest Artificial Intelligence Society in the United Kingdom. Roisin Loughran presented a paper on Serendipity in Melodic Self-organising Fitness at the AISB Convention 2018 in Liverpool 4-6 April.
