17 May and 23 May 2017 - A busy week of talks. Prof Michael O'Neill presents at the National Artificial Intelligence Workshop organised by the IDA and at the Accenture Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
27 February 2017 - Prof Michael O'Neill will be a Principal Investigator on ALECS (Advanced learning in Evolving Critical Systems). This is an MCSA-COFUND Fellowship Programme funded under H2020 worth 3.68 million Euro. The first cohort of fellowships will start in September 2018.
7 February 2017 - Dr Brendan Cody-Kenny and Prof Michael O'neill present a talk on Program Synthesis at a Fidelity Workshop on Artificial Intelligence..
15th December 2016 - We held the 7th Natural Computing Research & Applications Workshop today with presentations on a range of topics including Social Genetic Programming, Evolution of the Neural Architectures, Functional Benchmarks in GP, Why Don't Plants have Eyes? and Predictive Modelling in Patient Recruitment.
21 January 2016 - Prof Michael O'Neill has received a 2016 Failte Ireland Conference Ambassador Award in recognition for attracting and hosting the ACM GECCO 2011 conference in Dublin, which attracted over 600 delegates from 52 countries.
5 January 2016 - NCRA researchers have been nominated for two best paper awards (EuroGP and EvoApps) at this years EvoStar event. A total of nine papers will be presented by the group at the event held in Porto, Portugal at the end of March.
18 December 2016 - We held the 6th Natural Computing Research & Applications Workshop today with presentations on a range of topics from Genetic Programming for Sports Analytics and Clinical Trial Optimisation to semantics and program traces.
4 November 2015 - Prof Michael O'Neill was recently interviewed about "Natural Computing & Smart Business Systems" for the UCD College of Business - Faculty Insight Series.

25 May 2015 - NCRA researchers are presenting their latest findings at the IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation in Sendai, Japan this week. Papers on topics such as "Load Balancing in Heterogeneous Networks using Grammatical Evolution", "A Genetic Programming Approach for Delta Hedging", "Guidelines for defining benchmark problems in Genetic Programming", "Tonality Driven Piano Compositions with Grammatical Evolution", "Realised Volatility Forecasting: A Genetic Programming Approach" and "Deep Evolution of Feature Representations for Handwritten Digit Recognition" will be presented.

17 March 2015 - Prof Michael O'Neill gave a presentation on "Making sense of the big data generated" as part of an event on Re-engineering Clinical Trials - Developing new therapies in a connected world. The event was jointly hosted by Enterprise Ireland and ICON Plc on St Patrick's Day in Heidelberg, Germany. In attendance were Minister Simon Harris, the Irish Ambassador to Germany Michael Collins, and representatives from the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device sectors..

16 May 2014 - Michael has been appointed as the ICON Professor of Business Analytics in the UCD School of Business.
30 April 2014 - Science Foundation Ireland have awarded 1.8Million Euro to Michael for his research project on "Applications of Evolutionary Design". The NCRA are now recruiting a number of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students to start this September. .
27 April 2014 - Just over one month left to submit extended abstracts to the Semantic Methods in Genetic Programming PPSN 2014 Workshop.
23 April 2014 - A number of papers including, "Geometric Semantic Genetic Programming for Financial Data", "Dynamic Index Trading using a Gene Regulatory Network Model", and "Higher Order Functions for Kernel Regression" are being presented at the EvoStar events in Malaga, Spain this week. NCRA researchers are also playing a leading role in the organisation of the event. EuroGP, the European Conference on Genetic Programming is chaired by Miguel Nicolau, EvoMUSART is chaired by James McDermott and EvoFIN is chaired by Alexandros Agapitos.

All papers are publishing in Springer's LNCS series..
29 August 2012 - Michael O'Neill and Anthony Brabazon present their latest research on Artificial Immune Systems at the annual ICARIS conference held in Sicily. Studies include "An Analysis of Natural Computing Venues - A Focus on Immunocomputing" and "A Survey of Immunocomputing in Business Analytics and Finance".
13 August 2012 - We welcome Dr Miguel Nicolau as a new Research Fellow with FMC2. Earlier this month Dr Jonathan Byrne joined FMC2 as a Research Assistant having successfully completed his PhD earlier this Summer.
3 August 2012 - Today we say farewell to Erik Hemberg who has been with the NCRA since 2006 as a PhD student and then post doctoral research fellow. All the NCRA wishes Erik the very best for the future and when he joins Una-May's group in MIT later this month.
6 July 2012 - John Mark, David and Erik represent the NCRA at the ACM GECCO 2012 conference in Philadelphia from 7-11 July. They will present our latest research on Modularity and Adaptive Mutation in GP, and an application of GP to Femtocells in collaboration with Bell Labs.

14 October 2009 - Science Foundation Ireland announce the creation of the Financial Mathematics & Computation Cluster (FMC²). The cluster has received € 4.1 Million in funding, and is a collaboration between Industry partners, UCD, NUI Maynooth and Dublin City University. Three of the six Principal Investigators are members of UCD's NCRA, namely Anthony Brabazon, Michael O'Neill and David Edelman. The other PI's are Gregory Connor (NUIM), Paolo Guasoni (DCU) and John Cotter (UCD).

24 April 2009 - ICSP is an outreach module for Second Level students delivered by members of the NCRA to promote Computer Science (ICSP 2008). This initiative is critical in the Irish context as there is currently no ICT curriculum for high-school level students and consequently a lack of understanding of what CS is about and the potential careers that exist. Given that this sector of the Knowledge Economy is booming despite a deep recession, there is now a massive shortfall in graduates. ICSP 2009 is now open for applicants.

The primary objective of the EDGE project is to analyse and improve the ability of Grammatical Evolution (GE) to ï¬nd solutions in dynamic environments, facilitating its application to hard real-world dynamic problems. 30 March 2007 - NCRA researchers authored one of only two papers that have been nominated for the Best Paper Award at EvoMUSART 2007 (Evo*), to be held in Valencia, Spain from 11-13 April. The paper is Evolutionary GUIs for Sound Synthesis by James McDermott, Niall Griffith and Michael O'Neill.
