Welcome to Dr Takfarinas Saber

The NCRA Group would like to welcome Takfarinas who has joined as a Postdoctoral Researcher. He will be working in close collaboration with Bell Labs, Nokia within the Applications of Evolutionary Design (App’ED) project which aims to bring us closer to automated design tools inspired by the natural world. The tools will be applied to optimise Future Networks & Communications such as 5G networks.

Takfarinas completed his PhD in Computer Science at UCD and obtained both his B.Sc. in Computer Science and his M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2013 from the University of Nantes in France.

HUMIES Bronze Award for Human-competitive Artificial Intelligence

Dr Mike Fenton, Dr Ciaran McNally, Dr Jonathan Byrne, Dr James McDermott, Prof Michael O’Neill and Dr Erik Hemberg (MIT) have won the 2017 HUMIES Bronze Award for Human Competitive Artificial Intelligence at the annual ACM GECCO 2017Conference held in Berlin this July. The award winning work focused on Innovative Truss Design using Grammatical Evolution

PonyGE2 Launched at GECCO 2017

Dr Mike Fenton officially launched the release of PonyGE2, a Grammatical Evolution library in Python, at the GECCO 2017 EvoSoft Workshop in Berlin. The code and Wiki Documentation are available from GitHub and a paper outlining the library is available from arxiv

Recent Awards & Best Paper Nominations

David Lynch and Roisin Loughran are lead authors on two papers which have been nominated for Best Paper Awards at the European Conference on Genetic Programming (EuroGP 2016) and the European Conference on the Applications of Evolutionary Computation (EvoApplications 2016), and Prof Michael O’Neill has been awarded a Failte Ireland Conference Ambassador Award 2016 for attracting the ACM GECCO conference to Dublin.
